Advice & Help

What’s a ‘Golf Physio’ and what can I expect in an appointment?

I’ve been asked this a few times, mainly because there aren’t many physios who specialise in golfing injuries, so it can be an unfamiliar term.

I’ve built up an expertise in treating and resolving typical golfing injuries for the past 14 years. Due to the repetitive nature of golf, certain injuries are more frequent, but there are lots of different reasons why these injuries occur. Ultimately because everyone moves in different ways!

It’s like detective work, but it helps to have an in-depth knowledge of golf and what demands it creates on the body.

A typical session will involves asking lots of questions about the injury initially, then going through strength and movement tests which may induce pain. Finally, we might try some hands-on treatment in session to see if it helps pain, finished off by an exercise plan which is put into video that the patient goes home with. The patient will walk out of the session feeling better, and with a thorough diagnosis and plan of action for how the recovery will look like.
