Mid-Back and Rib Injuries in golfers – an epidemic on the rise!

By 4 February 2025No Comments

Rib and mid-back pain is becoming more and more common in my clinic. I would assume there’s a link between amateurs and swinging faster, but not necessarily having the body to cope with it. It’s less common in professionals.

Often the rib attachment to the mid-back joints can become compressed or over-stretched with side-bending of the spine in the swing. Add repetition to this and you’ve got a recipe for injury.

Easy wins to prevent mid-back and rib pain

  1. Avoid too much side-bending of your spine in your swing technique
  2. Vary the shot and club selection in your practice
  3. Work on your mid-spine flexibility and trunk strength
