The groin area is complicated. There are lots of structures all attaching in the same area that can cause you pain. All the more important to have a professional assess the area and give a thorough plan for recovery.
The most common structure to cause pain in the groin is the hip joint itself, and usually on the lead hip where lots of rotational forces occur in the downswing and follow-through. The hip joint can usually get pinched if the movement is restricted or if the muscles surrounding the hip joint can’t cope with the force of the swing.
Easy wins to prevent groin pain:
- Open your lead hip to 10 or 11 o’clock
- Practice should match the course
- Warm-up before you hit
- Start a tailored strength and mobility exercise program
