Avoiding wrist injuries in winter!

By 27 January 2026No Comments

As the ground gets heavier in winter, there can be more force into the wrists which hinge in the golf swing. We also tend to hit off matts more as the ground becomes wet and soggy. Having treated a number of patients with wrist injuries, they can be tricky injuries to manage. Amateurs in particular can be more prone to wrist and elbow injuries because they use the forearm muscles much more to generate speed with the club.

Try to avoid wrist injuries this winter with these simple tips:

  • Work with your swing coach to use the body more to generate club speed
  • Try to avoid excessive flicking of your wrists in your golf swing
  • Use the simple video below to warm-up your wrists before you hit
  • Start working on your forearm and grip strength
