Advice & Help

Are knee injuries common in golfers?

Knee injuries are definitely not as common as the lower back and hand/wrist injuries but they can niggle on the golf course. I don’t see many knee injuries with the actually swing itself, but obviously golf involves a lot of walking with up and down hills. This can be aggravating. Most commonly is pain around the kneecaps when walking up and down hills. Occasionally golfers can present with niggly inside or outside knee pain which usually involves the cartilage. There’s nothing to worry about, however, they can be resolved.

Try to avoid knee niggles this winter with these simple tips

  1. Work with your swing coach to avoid excessive knee bending in your swing
  2. Trying to slide the feet forward and back against the floor when swinging
  3. Use the simple video below to warm-up your knees before you hit
  4. Have supportive footwear when you play
